Board Chair
Dawayne Whittington serves as the Board Chair for Restorative Transitions (RT) and was one of the original board members in establishing RT as a 501(c)(3). His long-standing commitment to justice-involved individuals and Christ-centered community restoration has been a driving force in RT's mission to provide holistic care and transformational support.
Dawayne’s dedication began in 2012 with Project Nehemiah through the Summit Church, where he volunteered at Wake Correctional Center in Raleigh. His roles included mentoring and facilitating workshops on goal setting and job interviewing skills for soon-to-be-released men. Extending his commitment beyond mentoring, Dawayne has led his family in dedicating resources to align with RT's mission, including using a family-owned rental property for over a decade to house recently released individuals with no other housing alternatives.
Professionally, Dawayne is the Founder and CEO of a business specializing in helping institutions secure and manage funding for STEMM (science, technology, engineering, mathematics, and medicine) programs. With over 20 years of experience in evaluation, workforce development, and STEM education, he brings expertise in securing state and federal funding, developing metrics, and analyzing outcomes to guide data collection and reporting efforts.
As Board Chair, Dawayne applies his depth of experience to build a robust portfolio of funding partners and ensure that RT delivers impactful and sustainable services. He remains deeply committed to his faith, family, and community, continually seeking ways to make a Christ-centered, lasting impact. -

Board Member at Large
Carey Scortichini began volunteering at Wake Correctional Center in Raleigh in 2012. His roles included teaching in Project Nehemiah, facilitating worship services, and serving as a community volunteer sponsor. While sponsoring several men prior to their release from prison, he was able to observe the pressures and obstacles they face when returning to society. This led to the purchase of a house in Durham in 2015 to initiate a transitional ministry. That house, under different ownership, remains a part of RT’s residential program.
Prior to 2012, Carey was employed as a chemist for almost 40 years, mostly in industry. During that time, he served in various leadership roles in church and parachurch ministries. These parallel experiences instilled in him the necessity of obtaining results but never in a way that compromises the physical, emotional and spiritual health of the people involved. As an RT board member, he is therefore passionate about balancing the achievement of quantifiable goals with a focus on the welfare of residents, graduates, staff, donors, volunteers, property owners, and members of the community in which RT houses are located. He contributes to the physical upkeep and improvement of program houses and engages with residents in fellowship events to help let them know that they are seen and valued.
In retirement from full time paid employment, Carey has continued in ministry inside prisons, currently serving in Wake Correctional Center and in the federal prison complex in Butner, NC. He serves on the prayer team at his Summit Church campus. He also enjoys playing and recording piano music, especially Christmas carols.

Board Member at Large
Lee lends his leadership experience and organizational skills to support RT on its journey of growth and expansion. Lee began his journey with RT as a volunteer, assisting recently released men to acclimate to their new lives in the community. Lee’s dedication to serving the justice-involved population is firmly rooted in God’s call to work toward the redemption of our communities.
Professionally, Lee works as a project manager in Fidelity Investments’ Healthcare division. His prior work experience includes serving as a product manager at a financial services company and an infantry officer in the U.S. Army.
Lee’s two young boys keep him quite occupied (and on his toes), but in his spare time, he enjoys reading, spending time outdoors, and trying to outsource life’s mundane tasks to AI.
